A new exam — and not the classic Tableau Consultant. Salesforce opened registration for the Tableau Next Consultant exam in August 2026, and its guide aligns questions to Salesforce’s July (262.11) release. Tableau Next is the agentic analytics product built natively on Salesforce and Data 360; this exam does not cover Tableau Desktop, Server, or Cloud, which have their own Tableau certifications. About the Tableau Next Consultant certification

This is Salesforce’s implementation credential for Tableau Next, the analytics product that runs inside Salesforce on top of Data 360 rather than as a separate BI server. It validates that a consultant can stand up the whole stack: prepare data and build semantic models in Data 360, make those models ready for the Analytics Agent, design dashboards with actions, embed analytics in Lightning pages and Slack, and govern assets through workspaces and Personal Orgs.

The weighting tells you where the product is headed. Agentic Experiences is the single largest section at 25% — generative AI for building components, agent readiness, and the Analytics Agent’s exploration and proactive alerts — and the semantic model underpins almost every answer, because it is what the agent reads to understand your business terms. Expect scenarios on unions versus relationships, metric definitions, field labeling for AI, view-only asset sharing, and live analytics in Slack. For how this credential fits the wider Salesforce catalog, see our Salesforce exam study guide.

Exam sections and weights

Salesforce publishes exact weights for all six sections. With 60 scored questions, Agentic Experiences is about 15 questions, Data Setup and Embedding about 12 each, and the two 10% sections about 6 each.

Who this exam is for

Salesforce describes the candidate as someone who builds analytics natively on the platform:

  • Data analysts and BI consultants building and deploying Tableau Next dashboards and embedding them in Lightning pages or Slack.
  • Salesforce architects who know the core platform and the Data 360 architecture — data streams, DMOs, and batch data transforms.
  • Analytics implementers who set up workspaces, build semantic models, configure the Analytics Agent, migrate with data kits, and apply row-level security.

There is no required prerequisite, but Salesforce recommends Platform Administrator, Data 360 Consultant, and Agentforce Specialist, and expects comfort with Setup, permission sets, and Lightning page configuration. Because the role sits where data modeling meets AI agents, the closest match is our Salesforce career paths and roles for AI solution architects.

What this practice exam delivers

Learn mode

See the correct answer, the reasoning, and the Salesforce source after every question — useful on semantic-model scenarios where a union, a relationship, and a join look interchangeable.

Exam mode

A timed 105-minute run at the real exam’s pace, so you know whether 60 scenario questions fit your reading speed before test day.

Weighted by section

Questions follow the official split — 25% agentic, 20% data setup, 20% embedding, 15% dashboards, 10% each for admin and workspaces — so practice mirrors the blueprint.

Source-linked explanations

Every answer cites the Salesforce page it draws from — Tableau Next and Data 360 Trailhead modules, setup docs, and the exam guide — so weak spots become a reading list.

Sample Tableau Next practice questions

Ten free questions spread across the six sections in proportion to their weights, each with a full explanation and a link to the Salesforce source. The complete bank is available with the 24-hour trial.

Question 1 · Data Setup (20%)

Sales data arrives as two Data 360 objects with identical columns — one for North America and one for EMEA — and analysts need them treated as a single table of all orders.

What should the consultant build in the semantic model?

  1. A relationship between the two objects on Order ID
  2. A calculated dimension that concatenates the region names
  3. A logical view that unions the two objects
  4. A logical view with an inner join on Order ID
Show answer & explanation

Correct: C — a logical view with a union. A union stacks tables that share a structure into one object, adding rows; unions cannot be created with relationships, so appending tables requires a logical view.

Why not the others: a relationship (A) keeps each table distinct and resolves to a join, not an append; a calculated dimension (B) adds a field, not rows; an inner join (D) widens the data with columns and would drop orders that do not match across regions.

Question 2 · Data Setup (20%)

Three teams calculate “net revenue” differently in their own visualizations, and leadership wants one governed definition used by every dashboard and by the Analytics Agent.

Where should that definition live?

  1. In the semantic model, as a shared calculated measure or metric
  2. In each visualization, copied from a team wiki
  3. In a spreadsheet uploaded weekly
  4. In a dashboard text widget explaining the formula
Show answer & explanation

Correct: A — in the semantic model. Tableau Semantics maps raw data to standard business terms so the semantic model is a single source of truth; a definition stored there is reused by every visualization and gives agents the same business context.

Why not the others: per-visualization copies (B) are exactly the duplication a semantic layer removes; an uploaded spreadsheet (C) is ungoverned and goes stale; a text widget (D) documents a formula but does not enforce it.

Question 3 · Agentic Experiences (25%)

The Analytics Agent keeps misreading a Product field labeled “Start Date,” which could mean availability, manufacturing, or launch, and returns confusing answers.

What improves the model’s agent readiness most directly?

  1. Adding more visualizations that use the field
  2. Renaming the field to a specific label and adding a clear description of what it means
  3. Hiding the Product object from all users
  4. Converting the field to a text data type
Show answer & explanation

Correct: B — a specific label plus a clear description. Agents rely on object and field names and descriptions to interpret data, so replacing an ambiguous label (for example, with “Availability Start Date”) and describing its purpose removes the ambiguity.

Why not the others: more visualizations (A) do not tell the agent what the field means; hiding the object (C) removes useful data instead of clarifying it; changing the data type (D) loses date behavior and still leaves the meaning unclear.

Question 4 · Agentic Experiences (25%)

An analyst wants to describe a calculated field in plain language and have it drafted automatically, but the Draft with Einstein option does not appear in the Semantic Model Builder.

What is the most likely cause?

  1. The analyst’s browser language is not English
  2. The semantic model has too many data objects
  3. The dashboard has not been saved yet
  4. Einstein generative AI is not enabled, or Semantics AI is not turned on in the Data 360 Feature Manager
Show answer & explanation

Correct: D — generative AI or Semantics AI is not enabled. Drafting calculated fields with Einstein requires Einstein generative AI in the org and Semantics AI turned on in the Feature Manager; without them, the option does not appear.

Why not the others: browser language (A) and the number of data objects (B) do not hide the feature; dashboards (C) are unrelated to authoring calculated fields in the semantic model.

Source: Trailhead — Master Semantic Models (calculated fields and metrics) →
Question 5 · Agentic Experiences (25%)

A sales VP asks the Analytics Agent, “What was my refund rate this year compared to last year?” and expects the same answer the finance dashboard shows.

What makes that consistency possible?

  1. The agent reads the finance dashboard’s pixels
  2. The agent queries raw data lake objects directly with its own formula
  3. Both the agent and the dashboard use the same semantic model definitions and metrics
  4. The VP has System Administrator access
Show answer & explanation

Correct: C — a shared semantic model. The semantic layer gives agents real business context: when the agent and the dashboard both draw on the same metrics and field definitions, they return the same governed answer.

Why not the others: agents do not interpret dashboard images (A); improvising formulas over raw objects (B) is how inconsistent answers arise; elevated permissions (D) change what data a user can see, not how a metric is defined.

Source: Trailhead — Semantic models for AI-driven analytics →
Question 6 · Embedding, Cross-Cloud, & Interoperability (20%)

A regional sales leader shares a live Tableau Next visualization of pipeline in a Slack channel that includes reps from several territories.

What does each rep see?

  1. Exactly the data the leader sees, regardless of the rep’s access
  2. Live data from their own perspective, based on their own user permissions
  3. A static image that never updates
  4. Nothing until each rep is made a workspace owner
Show answer & explanation

Correct: B — live data based on each viewer’s own permissions. Tableau Next in Slack shares live, personalized analytics, and each viewer sees data from their own perspective according to their user permissions.

Why not the others: showing the sharer’s data to everyone (A) would bypass security; live analytics shared in Slack update rather than staying static (C); viewers do not need to own the workspace (D) to see shared analytics.

Question 7 · Embedding, Cross-Cloud, & Interoperability (20%)

Account managers want a Tableau Next dashboard of account health to appear directly on the Account record page, so they never leave Salesforce to check it.

What should the consultant do?

  1. Embed the dashboard in the Account Lightning record page
  2. Email a dashboard PDF to each account manager weekly
  3. Recreate the dashboard as a standard report chart by hand
  4. Publish the dashboard to a public website
Show answer & explanation

Correct: A — embed it in the Lightning record page. Tableau Next dashboards can be prepared for embedding and placed in Lightning pages, putting analytics in the user’s workflow — the core idea of the Embedding section.

Why not the others: emailed PDFs (B) are static and leave the workflow; rebuilding by hand (C) duplicates work and loses Tableau Next features; a public website (D) exposes data and still takes users out of Salesforce.

Question 8 · Basic Setup & Admin (10%)

A company has bought Tableau Next and the administrator wants to switch it on in a production org that has never used Data 360.

What must happen first?

  1. Install Tableau Desktop on each analyst’s laptop
  2. Build the first dashboard
  3. Configure Data 360 (Data Cloud) in the org, then enable Tableau Next and assign admin permissions
  4. Create a Slack workspace
Show answer & explanation

Correct: C — configure Data 360 first, then enable Tableau Next. Tableau Next runs on Data 360, so setup configures Data Cloud and then enables Tableau Next and assigns the Tableau Next admin permission set to the people who will set it up.

Why not the others: Tableau Desktop (A) is a different product and is not required; you cannot build a dashboard (B) before the feature is enabled; Slack (D) is an optional integration, not a setup prerequisite.

Question 9 · Visualizations & Dashboards (15%)

On a sales dashboard, users want to click a region in one chart and have the other charts on the dashboard focus on that region.

Which dashboard capability should the consultant configure?

  1. A separate dashboard for each region
  2. A text widget telling users which filter to type
  3. A scheduled export of each region’s data
  4. Interactivity through filters and actions on the dashboard
Show answer & explanation

Correct: D — filters and actions. Tableau Next dashboards support interactive features such as filters, parameters, and actions, so a selection in one visualization can drive what the others show.

Why not the others: one dashboard per region (A) multiplies maintenance and removes cross-region comparison; a text instruction (B) is not interactivity; scheduled exports (C) are static and outside the dashboard.

Question 10 · Managing Workspaces & Orgs (10%)

A BI author has finished a dashboard in a governed workspace. Business users should view and interact with it, but should not see the workspace’s drafts, experiments, or how the assets were built.

How should the author share it?

  1. Give every business user edit access to the whole workspace
  2. Share the dashboard asset individually in view mode
  3. Copy the dashboard into each user’s Personal Org
  4. Make every business user a co-owner of the workspace
Show answer & explanation

Correct: B — share the individual asset in view mode. Workspace owners control access both to the whole workspace and to individual assets; sharing a single asset in view mode gives business users a clean experience without exposing the workspace’s internals.

Why not the others: workspace edit access (A) and co-ownership (D) expose everything and allow changes; copying into Personal Orgs (C) misuses a development environment and creates ungoverned duplicates.

Tableau Next is not classic Tableau

Tableau Desktop, Server, and Cloud work on extracts and published data sources; Tableau Next runs inside Salesforce on Data 360, uses semantic models as its data layer, and is designed around agents and embedding in Salesforce and Slack. Classic Tableau skills help with visualization design, but setup, security, and data architecture are Salesforce questions here. Tableau Consultant practice exam →

Semantic models are the foundation

Know the building blocks — data objects, relationships, logical views (joins and unions), calculated dimensions and measures, metrics, and parameters — and when to use each. Relationships keep tables distinct; a logical view forces a join type or appends tables with a union. Clear labels and descriptions are not cosmetic: they are how the Analytics Agent understands your data. Data Cloud (Data 360) Consultant practice exam →

Agentic analytics and agent readiness

Agentic Experiences (25%) covers generative AI that drafts components such as calculated fields, assessing whether a semantic model is ready for agents, and how the Analytics Agent answers questions and pushes proactive alerts. Readiness work is concrete: specific field labels, descriptions under 255 characters that explain purpose and scope, no redundant calculated fields, and metrics defined for the high-impact questions users will ask. Agentforce Specialist practice exam →

Study path and career fit

Salesforce points candidates to its Tableau Next Consultant prep trail and two Trailhead Academy classes: SDC013 on getting started with Data 360 and Tableau Next, and TNX001 on visualizing and acting on data. A practical plan: build a semantic model and dashboard in a trial or Personal Org, work through the semantic-model, workspace, and Slack modules, drill scenarios in Learn mode weighted toward agentic and data setup, then sit at least one timed run in Exam mode.
